Professor Janet Franklin Delivers 13th Virginia & J. Edward Holtry Distinguished Lecture in Geospatial Science at South Dakota State University
On October 14, 2024, San Diego State University geographer Janet Franklin was invited to give the 13th Virginia & J. Edward Holtry Distinguished Lecture in Geospatial Science at ‘the other SDSU’ – South Dakota State University. Janet Franklin is the Campanile Foundation Endowed Professor of Geography in the Center for Geospatial Sciences and Department of Geography at San Diego State. She was invited by Xiaoyang Zhang, Distinguished Professor at the Department of Geography, and Geospatial Science Center of Excellence at South Dakota State University. She gave a technical seminar entitled “Forecasting Global Change Impacts on Biodiversity” and a public lecture “Indigenous-led Eco-cultural stewardship for Climate Adaptation and Resilience.” In the public lecture she talked about her participation in the Collaborative of Native Nations for Climate Transformationand Stewardship, a San Diego State-based project that advances a model of Indigenous-led lands stewardship for climate adaptation and resilience by taking a community-based approach in southern California to support climate resilience, for cultural persistence and well-being of Tribal communities in southern California.
