SDSU Students Enjoy a Guest Lecture from an Indigenous Scientist and Culture Bearer

Supported by COGS and CNNCTS, Dr. Janet Franklin brought Mr. Connor Magee into her class, Geography 570: Environmental Conservation Practice – Social-ecological Impacts of Climate Change on March 12, 2025. Connor Magee is an ecology Ph.D. student from University of California Davis, and a Member of the Pala Band of Mission Indians, and is Payomkawish/Cahuilla. Connor’s discussion of Indigenous climate resilience and underlying concepts of kinship, reciprocity, Indigeneity, knowledge sovereignty, self-determination and governance, from his perspective as an Indigenous scientist and person, greatly enriched the students experience and understanding of these important topics.
